Attention Fayette Citizens,

We need you help. This November you will be voting on a fire levy. The levy that is currently in place is a continuous levy that splits fire funds between the Fayette Township Fire District #1 and the Fayette #2 Fire Department. Due to a change in Ohio's tax code we stand to loose an estimated $70,000 between the two (separate) departments. By consolidating these two stations we can dramatically reduce the amount of money that we stand to lose. But, the only legal way to combine the departments is by putting it on the ballot. The Fayette Township Trustees have been working hard researching the pros and cons and found that this is the best course of action. This levy will not raise your taxes. In fact according to the Lawrence County Auditors office some of you will see a reduction in property taxes. We hope you will look over the information below and help us by voting YES for the Fayette Township Fire Levy.

Thank you for your continued support,

What a vote YES means to you.
  • The two fire districts within Fayette Township will consolidate into one fire department.
  • Both the Burlington and Sunrise stations will remain open.
  • No increase in your property tax. In fact some homeowners in Fayette Township will see a slight decrease in their property tax.
  • One township fire department will retain more money than two separate fire departments due to recent changes in the Ohio tax code.
  • Better fire service in all parts of Fayette Township.

What happens if the vote fails?

  • More money will be lost due to tax code changes (estimated $70,000 per year)
  • The fire station in northern (Sunrise) Fayette Township will be in jeopardy. If it is forced to close responding to fire emergencies in the northern portion of Fayette Township could take as long as 30 minutes.

Consolidating the fire department just makes sense.

  • Maintaining proper funding.
  • Supporting your local heroes.
  • Lower property taxes.
  • Better fire service.
  • More efficient and effective spending of your tax dollars.
